Rep. Allen West Challenges Conservative Mothers
But when you understood what made the Spartan men strong, it was the Spartan women. Because the Spartan women at the age of nine gave up their male sons. And their male sons went into a training that was called the Agoge and they stayed in that training for the next eleven to twelve years. And when they were finally qualified, when they were finally ready to join the ranks for the Spartan army, it was not their father who gave them their cloak and shield. It was their mother who gave them their shield. And when the Spartan mother gave that young Spartan warrior his shield, she gave him this basic commandment: “Spartan, here is your shield. Come back bearing this shield or being borne upon it!”When Queen Gorgo, wife of King Leonidas, was questioned by the Persian emissary and she somewhat spoke out of turn to this Persian emissary, he tried to rebuke her. And she looked at him and said “Persian, beware, for it is Spartan women who raise Spartan men.”

Merry, merry,
Take a cherry;
When I sound the fairy call,
Gather here in silent meeting,
Chin to knee on the orchard wall,
Cooled with dew and cherries eating.

- QUOTES FROM GEORGE WASHINGTON
- Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the peoples' liberty's teeth.
- Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master. Guard against the impostures of pretended patriotism.
- Happiness and moral duty are inseparably connected.
- I can only say that there is not a man living who wishes more sincerely than I do to see a plan adopted for the abolition of slavery.
- If the freedom of speech is taken away, then dumb and silent we may be led like sheep to the slaughter.
- It will be found an unjust and unwise jealousy to deprive a man of his natural liberty upon the supposition he may abuse it.
- Let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.
- The foolish and wicked practice of profane cursing and swearing is a vice so mean and low that every person of sense and character detests and despises it.
- The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference - they deserve a place of honor with all that's good.
- Truth will ultimately prevail where there is pains to bring it to light.

American Heritage Girls (AHG) is a Christian-based organization which receives no money from the government and, therefore, the government has no hold over them in regard to their mission, guidelines, or requirements for joining.
While the Girl Scouts of the USA was founded in 1912 and chartered by Congress in 1950, AHG troops must be chartered by a church or private school that has the same basic religious beliefs as the organization. Girls don’t have to be religious to join, but leaders must sign a statement of faith.

Patti Garibay with friends started AHG in 1995 for people "who really want a wholesome program for their daughters." She is herself a former Girl Scout and longtime leader, recruiter, troop director, and council delegate.
Dr. James Dobson gave his stamp of approval to AHG: “I recommend American Heritage Girls enthusiastically to parents who want their daughters involved in a traditional Christian-based program that will reinforce what they are trying to teach at home.”

In 2004, the impact of her new group was so significant that USA Today reported that "Girl Scouts lose members to Christian-based group." Young mother Donna Coody had taken her 9-year-old daughter out of Girl Scouts because of their endorsement of two Planned Parenthood sex education seminars. "I felt like the Girl Scouts' morals were definitely lacking, and the girls needed another choice," Coody says.

Happy February!
"Away in a meadow all covered with snow
The little old groundhog looks for his shadow
The clouds in the sky determine our fate
If winter will leave us all early or late."- Don Halley

"Why, what's the matter,
That you have such a February face,
So full of frost, of storm and cloudiness?" - William Shakespeare, Much Ado About Nothing

"The flowers of late winter and early spring occupy places in our hearts well out of proportion to their size."
- Gertrude S. Wister

There are Spring violets under the snow."

"Rich meanings of the prophet-Spring adorn,
Unseen, this colourless sky of folded showers,
And folded winds; no blossom in the bowers;
A poet's face asleep in this grey morn.
Now in the midst of the old world forlorn
A mystic child is set in these still hours.
I keep this time, even before the flowers,
Sacred to all the young and the unborn."
Alice Meynell, In February

"Announced by all the trumpets of the sky,
Arrives the snow, and, driving o'er the fields,
Seems nowhere to alight: the withered air
Hides hills and woods, the river, and the heaven,
And veils the farm-house at the garden's end.
The sled and traveler stopped, the courier's feet
Delayed, all friends shut out, and housemates sit
Around the radiant fireplace, enclosed
In a tumultuous privacy of storm."- Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Wan February with weeping cheer,
Whose cold hand guides the youngling year
Down misty roads of mire and rime,
Before thy pale and fitful face
The shrill wind shifts the clouds apace
Through skies the morning scarce may climb.
Thine eyes are thick with heavy tears,
But lit with hopes that light the year's."- Algernon Charles Swinburne, A Year's Carols: February

"In tangled wreath, in clustered gleaming stars,
In floating, curling sprays,
The golden flower comes shining though the woods
These February days;
Forth go all hearts, all hands, from out the town,
To bring her gayly in,
This wild, sweet Princess of far Florida -
The yellow jessamine."- Constance Fenimore Woolson, Yellow Jessamine

"Come when the rains
Have glazed the snow and clothed the trees with ice,
While the slant sun of February pours
Into the bowers a flood of light. Approach!
The incrusted surface shall upbear thy steps
And the broad arching portals of the grove
Welcome thy entering."- William Cullen Bryant, A Winter Piece
